What to See and Do in
Although it's not ranked as high as other Indonesian cities (Batam, Bintan, Bali, & Yogyakarta) in terms of annual international visitors, Surabaya and East Java is still considered as Indonesia's top tourist destination.
Majority of visitors use Surabaya as the entry point to visit the renowned Mount Bromo. Another natural phenomenon that has gained tremendous popularity due to a coverage by National Geographic is Ijen Crater in Banyuwangi. You could also witness turtles laying eggs in Sukamade Beach in Banyuwangi.
If you're into hiking and Mount Bromo and Ijen Volcano are not challenging enough, go for the majestic Mount Semeru where you would pass by the gorgeous Ranu Kumbolo Lake.
Whiel in East Java, you could even go to Malang or Batu for some amusement parks, safari and plantations with your family.
Surabaya city itself doesn't lack attractions with its ever-popular House of Sampoerna Museum and Cigarette-making factory, Al-Akbar Mosque, and Heroes Monument.
